Irish Pelagic Handling and Quality Guides

Handling and Quality Guides were produced by Bord Iascaigh Mhara / Irish Sea Fisheries Board for a number of species to help fishermen to assess the quality of their product, and guide them in best practice from capture to onward transport.

The quality guides for mackerelherringhorse mackerel and blue whiting here can be downloaded by clicking on the species of your choice.

'Pelagic Handling Guide; Best Practice' completes the series of guides and provides information on chill chain management and food safety requirements.

Training to new entrants is also provided by Bord Iascaigh Mhara / Irish Sea Fisheries Board through accredited courses. As well as highlighting the skills required to work safely onboard, courses also emphasize conservation technology, environmental awareness and fish quality.

Further information on training can be viewed on the Bord Iascaigh Mhara / Irish Sea Fisheries Board website.
